Certification for Addiction Medicine Specialists

There are multiple pathways available to achieve subspecialty certification in addiction medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) and the American Osteopathic Conjoint Examination Committee on Addiction Medicine.

To prepare for the certification examination, the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine (ACAAM) offers three cost-effective online addiction medicine preparation tools.

2022 Addiction Practice e-Test (ADePT)

The Addiction e-Practice Test (ADePT) is a  proven knowledge self-assessment and subspecialty certification examination preparation tool developed without industry support or influence by an academic panel of ACAAM addiction medicine experts. 2022 ADePT is an evidence-based, referenced, cognitive assessment tool including 187 questions addressing all 17 core content areas of the American Board of Preventive Medicine Addiction Medicine examination. Correct and incorrect answers are provided upon completion of the practice test regardless of a passing rate. ADePT purchasers have access to this product until April 29, 2025. Credits: 18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ available upon completion. ABAM Time-Limited Diplomates have complimentary access to this practice tool. 

Question Bank

The ACAAM Addiction Medicine Board Preparation Question Bank is a new way to prepare for the ABPM Addiction Medicine exam. Physicians wishing to assess their knowledge in the field will also find this a useful tool. The question bank, developed by addiction medicine leaders addressing all 17 core content areas of the ABPM exam content blueprint, includes 187 questions with answer explanations and references. While the questions are the same as those in the Addiction Medicine e-Practice Test (ADEPT), they are offered in study mode providing purchasers with instant access to the correct answers, explanations, and references. Purchasers have access to the Question Bank until April 29, 2025. Credits: 18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ available upon completion.

Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs)

Addiction Medicine Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs) provide a unique opportunity to physicians and medical professionals to stay up to date on the latest developments in addiction medicine. These 137 SAMs offer a comprehensive collection of relevant, evidence-based content, can be used as a tool to test your knowledge and skills, and one (1) CME unit is given for each completed SAM. There are four (4) questions per module and immediate feedback is given upon completing the self-assessment. 2023-2024 SAMs purchasers have access to the product through June 30, 2024. Credits: AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ available per completed SAM (up to 137). ABAM Time-Limited Diplomates have complimentary access to this practice tool.
